For many of us this is the time of year to show appreciation, express thanks and reflect on all our blessings throughout the holiday season. As a League I think that we are lucky to be reminded of our efforts based on the mission driven work that we are all committed to all year long.
Last Friday, Karen Porschet- Miller (Treasurer), Kate Empasis (New Member) and I all had the honor of presenting a check in the amount of $500.00 to St Vincent de Paul, as voted on in our last general meeting.
Len Hebert current President and Dennis Mihocko (In-Coming President and Kate’s father) gave us an overview of all the SVDP programs and a tour of their facility.
I was amazed to learn how much they are able to accomplish with the support of our community and volunteers. Last year alone they were able to serve 47,000 hot meals to men, women and children. Their food pantry was able to serve almost 17,000 adults and children with about 9,000 sacks of groceries. Their shelter has an emphasis is on emergency needs of parents with children and kept 6,000 families and individuals off the streets. We were assured that our League’s donation will go far.
I would also like to mention and thank all of our League members who had the opportunity to help in our last Done in a Day at The Kid’s Unlimited 13th Annual Thanksgiving dinner. Our League was able to do its part and help serve 24 turkeys, 13 hams, close to 200 pounds of potatoes, six gallons of turkey gravy and mounds of green beans to nearly 500 guests that are served by Kids Unlimited. Needless to say it was an amazing night of greeting families and serving up a traditional holiday meal to very thankful families.
Thanks to all of you for the hard work you do each day throughout the year.
